I use the term "Play Hero" VERY loosely, as there is nothing fun about being the sole witness of a car crash.

Basically I was getting ready to head home from work in the early hours of this morning (just past midnight to be exact) when a car comes around the corner at around 10km or so over the speed limit. Due to the conditions of the road, it having been raining on and off during the night, the road being quite slippery, the driver loses control of the vehicle, and in the process of trying to correct their steering, sends the car into a complete spin. Halfway through the spin the car went clean through a safety barrier guarding a roughly 5ft drop into a stormwater ditch, landing on its nose, and finally landing on its side before coming to a halt.

Naturally, wanting to make sure no one was killed in the accident, I jumped out of my car and down into the ditch to check on the cars occupants, the depots single pump-staff member on duty joining me about 30 seconds later. THANKFULLY no one was killed in the accident, though the driver was fairly shaken up (Note: The driver was NOT intoxicated/on drugs/ANYTHING like that, it was simply a case of being careless and losing control on the corner.). Ambulance/Fire Service was promptly called to be on the safe side, and to make sure that the car was not going to unexpectedly blow up on us.

The ambulance was quite fast in arriving, though the police arrived first, and spent probably a good 15 minutes or so questioning me about exactly what happened and wanting me to point out roughly where the car lost control, etc etc etc.

Finally got home at around 1am after hanging around for a bit to make sure that the driver and her passenger were both ok, and that the police did not need me for anything else.
